Drinks GP Calculator: Pints, Spirits and Wine (UK)

By mise · Updated September 29, 2026

Quick answer: drinks GP% = (price ex VAT − cost) ÷ price ex VAT. Divide the menu price by 1.2 to remove 20% VAT first. UK pubs typically target around 55–65% on draught, 65–75% on spirits and wine.

GP is how UK pubs talk about margin. Get the VAT step wrong and every drink looks more profitable than it is.

Example (pint): keg £140 for 88 pints → £1.59 a pint. Price £5.20 → £4.33 ex VAT. GP = (4.33 − 1.59) ÷ 4.33 = 63%.
